2004 : Johnson & Perrott Motor Group To Relocate To Mahon Point Retail Park,Cork. Johnson & Perrott Motor Group announced an €8 million investment in Cork city with the relocation of their existing dealerships at Emmet Place and Victoria Cross,to a new 3-acre, flagship site at Mahon Point Retail Park,a major new development on the outskirts of the city. Johnson & Perrott Motor Group is one of Ireland's leading motor retailers with significant interests in fleet management,motor dealerships and car hire through their Avis Rent -a-Car franchise. Johnson & Perrott employs over 300 people and recorded a turnover of €127 million in 2002. The development will have a footprint of 30,000 square feet and formal application for planning permission will be sought immediately.Designed by SDA Architects in Leeds,UK , the complex will,usually,house three franchises under one roof and the airy,high ceilinged structure of the building is designed to relax customers and fit their needs-including an internet cafe,a state of the art after-sales area and ample customer parking. Mark Whitaker , Chief Executive of the Johnson & Perrott Motor Group commented-"Our management team is very excited about this development.The new site is at the entrance to the Mahon Point Retail Park and we specifically selected this for the exposure to the vast numbers of visitors to both the shopping complex,and the large homeware and DIY stores in the retail park.This site will present tremendous opportunities for our business-both in the new and used cars sectors-and we project our vehicle sales will grow by 50% in the first twelve months of the development opening".

2004 : New Avis Rapid Return Avis,Europe's largest car rental company,has launched its newest customer service initiative,RAPID RETURN:an innovative hand-held check-in device,that uses wireless technology to radically improve the speed of car return. The device has been installed in 11 of Avis' busiest stations in the UK,and at major airports accross Europe.Rapid Return can process car return in as little as 60 seconds from start to finish. The device reads a barcode on the vehicle and uploads the rental information including mileage used,fuel level etc.A final receipt for the rental can then be issued with the customer at the carside and the customer can verify on the spot!The receipt can also be issued in seven different languages and reduces the car return stages allowing customers to avoid additional paperwork and save valuable time. 2004 : Employee of the Year 2003 Brian O'Sullivan is the employee of the year 2003.Brian , Fleet Supervisor , based at Cork Airport , was nominated for his design and implementation of a new system enabling more accurate estimation of repair costs for damaged Avis vehicles thus resulting in efficiencies and savings for the company.Brian carried out training at Dublin,Shannon and Cork rental locations and also in the Johnson & Perrott division which included managers,supervisors and operational staff. Each person renting an Avis car in Ireland will find a card swinging from the rearview mirror of their rental car offering a discount on visiting the Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre in Kilbarry,Waterford City and an entry form for a competition offering a €5,000 suite of magnificent Waterford Crystal of their choice. The Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre is the fourth most popular tourist attraction in Ireland.Last year,more than 300,000 people visited.This year,contary to the national trend,tourist numbers,particularly from the United States,are up 8%,year to date.The joint promotion between Waterford Crystal and Avis will run until the 31st of October 2003.

The system, in trial exclusively with Avis, will be used in 100 Vauxhall Omegas. Test sites will include Edinburgh Airport, Glasgow Airport, Birmingham Airport and Luton Airport. Drivers push a button to tell a personal assistant where they want to go. The route is then calculated and sent to the system in the car, making use of current road traffic data. It will also re-route mid-journey if there are problems on the road ahead. There will be a special introductory pilot charge for the system of £5 per day per car or £25 per car for use of the system across a seven-day rental. Avis fleet director Carolyn Emberton said: 'Smartnav will take the stress out of driving as the system simplifies journeys. Avis customers can be confident that by using Smartnav-equipped cars, they will arrive safely at their destination.'
